Our project is based on a mobile application that lets Manhattan College students gain access to various amounts of school data. Our inspiration is Google's app in regards to their "cards" system. Our application will have a similar set up with "cards" that pertain to the user. The cards that will be implemented will include the various portlets that appear on the Manhattan College Portal as well as the ones that we will create ourselves. Some of the cards that we had in mind are: a friends card, JasperCard, and MC Maps. The friends cards allows you to share information with your friends (made private by default) such as class schedule, your dorm number, your cell phone number, etc. We also plan on implementing the JasperCard into Google Wallet and Apple Wallet. This will allow users to make purchases from their mobile devices like your personal debit card. Another feature we plan to enroll with the JasperCard will be access to buildings such as the library. MC Maps will track the location of what building you are currently in, show a building directory, and a custom street view of the building in regards to campus.
Key features of the app include: machine learning technology, notifications, and ease of access to one location for all your needs. We plan on using machine learning technology to filter the data specific to the user and his/her interaction with it. With having a mobile app, notifications are very easy to notify the student. The student can get updates on their account like a hold for example. With Manhattan College's vast amount of data the mobile application can be a "one stop shop" for the needs of students and teachers.
